Root Booster

Power Organics Mycorrhizal Root Booster is a product we consider to be an outstanding result of biological soil research. Mycorrhizae are naturally occurring beneficial micro-organisms that effectively add millions of tiny roots to your plants. The resultant increase in yields is well documented by USDA researchers. Commercial growers are very excited about mycorrhizae and we are proud to be among the first to offer it to home gardeners. All you do is sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon on transplant roots, place it under seeds or introduce it to established plants and the mycorrhizae colonize and grow along with the roots. One inoculation is good for the life ot the plant. Power Organics Mycorrhizal Root Booster is a great example of cutting-edge scientific research being made available to home gardeners. In practical terms, these organisms attach to a plant's root system and then search the surrounding soil to bring nutrients, particularly phosphorus, to their host plant. A plant with the right species of mycorrhizae can uptake ten times more nutrients, creating a very vigorous and healthy plant, needing much less fertilizer.

Some plants have thick, fleshy roots which are not efficient (such as citrus, grapes, asparagus, tomatoes, melons, squash, and many fruit trees). These plants depend on mycorrhizae and may not even survive without it.

We have several of the best species available for use right now. Our inoculant has been propagated in sterile greenhouse conditions, and comes in dry granular form for long shelf life (2 years+). We sell a mixture of the most beneficial endo and ecto species, including Glomus brasilianum, G. clarum, G. deserticola, G. intraradices, G. monosporus, G. mosseae, Gigaspora margarita, Lacarria laccata, L. bicolor, Pisolithus tinctorious, Rhizopogon fulvigleba, R. rubescens, R. villosuli, Scleroderma cepa and S. citrinum (40 spores/cc (endo), 50,000 spores/cc (ecto). This broad range of species allows your plants to "select" which species works best with your soil. When applied, the best species for your situation will activate and the other spores will just remain dormant. We're confident that this combination and concentration is the best myco inoculant available anywhere. If you shop around, be sure to compare species and spore counts. Beware of cheaper inoculants that don't list species/spore counts.

Tomato Experiment - Overcoming Tobacco Mosaic Virus

These tomato plants were all selected from the same flat, planted in identical soil, infected with Tobacco Mosaic and grown side-by-side. The plant on the left received no added nutrients and is succumbing to the disease without bearing. The center plant was given light feedings of a commonly-used chemical fertilizer and produced a small crop. The plant on the right received only a teaspoonful of mycorrhizae tomato innoculant at the time of transplanting and produced a fine crop. (Note that all three plants still have the virus - it can't be "cured", but a powerful root system can allow a plant to withstand diseases.)

Application Rates

All rates are approximate.  A teaspoon of inoculum will contain dozens of spores, and just ONE activated spore can create the association for the entire root system.  But, using more than indicated will not be harmful in any way.  As these spores are not mobile, they must be put in the zone where the plant roots are growing.

Transplants - Touch damp roots to the inoculum so a small amount sticks to the roots, or sprinkle in planting holes. For large transplants, such as tomatoes and peppers, use 1/2 teaspoon per plant. Smaller seedlings may need only 1/4 teaspoon.

Established Plants - Poke a hole down to the root zone, pour in 1/2 teaspoon and close the hole.

Seeds - For starting seeds in containers, mix inoculum with seed starting mix, potting soil, or compost, at a rate of 1 teaspoon per each dry quart of medium. For direct seeding, put 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon under each seed, depending on size, or use 1 teaspoon sprinkled along 2 feet of row for most row crops.
